James M. Kite was born January 2, 1850, in Tenn. and died August 27, 1917, at his home, aged 67 years, 7 months and 25 days. He was married to Lucinda Lashbrook Feb. 12, 1881, she departed this life August 27, 1916, just 1 year preceding his death. To this union were born six children one son Harrison preceding the parents; John and Eunice at home; Mrs. Ida Buckley and Mrs. Addie Hartman of Casey; and Mrs. Grace Sharrett of Bridgeport; eight grandchildren; three brothers Landon and Daniel of Casey; and George of Hampton, Iowa; one sister Mrs. Mary Brant of Effingham and hosts of other relatives and friends to the mourn their loss. He united with the Methodist Church at Mount in 1882 living a quiet but a constant Christian life until death claimed him.

Funeral at Mount Church Tuesday August 28, conducted by Rev. Smith assisted by Rev. Mathas. He was laid to rest in the cemetery.

James Kite, one of Casey Township's old and most highly respected citizens, had the misfortune to fall down the stairway at the courthouse in Marshall, Saturday, and he died from the injuries sustained at an early hour on Monday following, aged about 67 years. Mr. Kite had left Casey on the morning train Saturday to visit a daughter who resides in Bridgeport. He went by way of Marshall, and while waiting for the train south visited the courthouse where the mishap occurred. The funeral service took place from the Mounts Chapel Tuesday afternoon, burial in the cemetery near the church.
