Frederick H. Blake Jr. died Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was 94. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., he had lived in Montclair until 1968, when he moved to Harding. He was educated at the Taft School and graduated from Yale University in 1933. Mr. Blake began working for American Book Company in 1933 while attending night classes at New York University Graduate School of Business. He received his MBA in 1938. That same year, he married Lois Catherine Robinson of Middlebury, Vt., a graduate of Middlebury College and the School of Fashion Illustration at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City. A World War II veteran, Mr. Blake served in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalions (Seabees) in the South Pacific. After the war, he returned to American Book Company, where he was named comptroller in 1958. He subsequently joined the Underwood Company as director of application research. From 1960 to 1964, he was a management consultant in partnership with the former treasurer of Exxon Corp. A member of the Financial Executives Institute since 1945, Mr. Blake served for a time on the board of trustees of the group's New York City chapter. He served on the board of directors of the Morristown YMCA and on the Harding Township Board of Health. (contributed by Kathryn Gordon)
