Russell Lafayette Guymon passed away May 11, 2010 at the age of 91 in Richland, Washington. Russell was born March 9, 1919 in Parowan, Utah to Marcus Lafayette Guymon and Sarah Minerva Norton Guymon, the 4th child in a family of eight children.
Russell's mother died when he was 10 years old, a mother he deeply loved and adored. After the loss of his mother, he was raised by his Grandma and Grandpa Mark Guymon in Parowan. These grandparents taught and loved him. Speaking of his grandmother he said "There are not enough words to tell the kind of lady she was." During his youth he worked for his Uncle and Aunt, Fred and Eleanor Bruhn at the Bryce Canyon Café in Panguitch, Utah. During those years he became especially close to his Bruhn cousins: Arthur, Beth (Hurst), Vee, and Bill. These friendships were life lasting and a meaningful part of his life.
Russell was blessed with an adventuresome spirit. He enjoyed the outdoors and being in the mountains. He loved all sports and was a champion at horseshoe pitching in High School. He felt lucky to grow up during the ‘Big Band Era' and always enjoyed a good dance and a good song.
In 1939 he married Eva Marshall and they were blessed with two sons, Wayne Mac (Sandy), and Alan Russell Guymon. Alan was killed in 1968 while serving in the Viet Nam War. After Russell and Eva were married, they moved to Southern California where he worked for the Union Oil Company. In 1943 he was called to fight in the European conflict of World War II. When the war ended he returned to California where he worked in the Dairy Food Sales Business, and raised his family.
In the early 1970s' Russ and Eva moved to St. George where he worked as a Park Ranger for 10 years, retiring in 1984. While living in California he picked up a passion called ‘Golf', and his retirement years were filled with many hours on the golf course. They moved to Kingman, Arizona in 1989, where they lived for 5 years before returning to St. George. It was during this time in his life that he became reactivated in the LDS church and remained so the rest of his life. In 2008 Russell moved to Richland, Washington to be closer to his son Wayne and his family, a very special time for him and his family as well.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers and sisters: Howard, Harold, Florence, Deloy, Ilene Holmes, and Lucille. His wonderful wife Eva and son Alan. He is survived by his sister Vera Behank, son Wayne Guymon (Sandy) of Richland, Washington, and his grandson, Jonathan W. Guymon (Natalie) and his granddaughter, Kendle (John Hoogestraat). He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
