Richard Francis Bandlow died February 25, 2010, at his home in Kent, WA, attended by his beloved wife and daughter. He suffered with pancreatic cancer.
Richard Bandlow was a Tallahassee native, one of the first babies born at TMH, October 31, 1949. He graduated from Leon High School (1967), Florida State University (1972), and earned an MBA (1983).
He attended FSU Air Force ROTC, US Air Force pilot training with active duty and reserves, from which he retired as a major.
He worked as an air traffic controller in New Jersey and then settled with his family in Kent, WA. He began with Piedmont Airlines as a commercial pilot, his lifelong dream. Later he was first officer with US Airways (23 years) until his illness.
He was an avid fisherman, first with his father. He liked shooting and hunting and was an excellent backyard carpenter.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Judy Dragich Bandlow, and by his daughter, Jessica Elizabeth Bandlow of Kent. Other family members include his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Terry Broadway of Tallahassee; mother-in-law and brother-in-law; five cousins; two nephews and one niece; and his fellow pilots and friends.
He will be buried with military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery, Maple Valley, Washington.
