Helmer Joseph Hammer 53 of Stockton passed away about 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Schoenhard in Galena, where he had been resting following a siege of illness during which he was confined in a Freeport hospital. He was born August 8, 1887 in Guilford township, Jo Daviess Co., the son of Bernhardt and Catherine/Catherina Hammer. He is survied by his widow; five children, Austin, Maylene, Beulah, Marlow and Delano, all at home; four brothers, George and Albert of Scales Mound, John of Apple Valley and Alvin of Galena; four sisters, Miss Emma Hammer of Schapville, Mrs. Henry Dittmar of Apple Valley and Mrs. Carl Schoenhard of Galena. Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Vanderheyden funeral home in Stockton and at 2 o'clock from Schapville Presbyterian Church. Rev. William Tjaden officiating and burial was made in the Schapsvill Cemetery.
