William Price was the son of Harrison Hughes and his 2nd wife, Elmira Silcox, and was the grandson of Josiah and Martha Hughes. He was born in Polk County, Tennessee but his family had moved to Benton County, Arkansas by 1880. In that census William's siblings were Berton, Lafayette, Allen, Eliza J., and Sis - all born in Tennessee except 3 yr. old Sis, who was born in Arkansas.
William's father, Harrison, had been married to Thaney Clayton (daughter of Elijah and Elizabeth Roach Webb Clayton) and their children were John Harrison, Mahala Jane, Martha A., Elijah, Nancy Elizabeth, and Thaney Caroline. One of William's descendants says family lore records that William was married and divorced at least three times. He thought his last wife was of Cherokee descent.
