SACRED to the memory of JOHN W. LEE, Planter, He was born on the 10th day of Dec. 1784, on Saluda River within 12 miles of this spot where He died on the 6th day of October in the 45th year of his age.
Through a life of uncommon activity he enjoyed the constant esteem and confidence of his neighbors.
He was honest and industrious, fearless and independent while none surpassed him in kindness of heart, and generosity of feeling.
As a neighbor, he was hospitable and benevolent.
As a husband tender.
As a parent gentle.
And as a friend he was bold and true.
Requiescat in pace.
