Frances was the last child, of eight, to James Sedley and Martha Jane (Berkley) Duncan. However she and other children are living with her mother and step-father, Mr. James P. Duncan, in the 1900 census. It can not be proven currently if James S. and John P. Duncan are related.

Francis and Ultimus were married in 1917.
