Agness C. "Grandma Aggie" Hardin died May 11, 2010 at home in Monroe, Oregon. She was 88. She was born in Metolius, OR on December 15, 1921 to Homer and Hetta Alexander. Agness was raised and educated in Central Oregon and graduated from Redmond High School. She married Joseph E. Hardin in Terrebonne on Oct. 6, 1940. They moved to Monroe in 1942 where she has lived since. She worked at home and volunteered with the local schools. She enjoyed needlework, cooking, the Oregon Coast and was the longest living resident of Monroe.

Preceded in death by her husband in 2002; brothers, Nile, Orlie and George; sisters, Fannie Regnier and Zella McDaniel. Agness is survived by her son: Joe (Norene) of Monroe; daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Ballard of Monroe, Nila Jo Malcom of Portland; grandchildren: Don, Scott, Angela, Susan, Robin, Wendy, Brian and Katie; 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Monday, May 17, 2010 in the Bellfountain Community Church. Burial will follow at Bellfountain Cemetery. The casket will be open for an hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Public Library Fund in care of McHenry Funeral Home. 206 NW 5th St. Corvallis, Ore. 97330.

Agness Hardin

Former Metolius resident Agness Clayton (Alexander) Hardin died May 11, 2010, peacefully, with her family at her side. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Metolius, to parents Homer and Hetta Alexander. She grew up in Terrebonne and graduated from Redmond High School. After graduation, she went to live with her half-sister and brother-in-law, Jinks and Zella McDaniel in Cloverdale, Ore., east of Sisters.

There she met Joseph Hardin, and they were married in October 1940. The Hardins moved to Monroe, Ore., where they lived until her death.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and afghans to give away, and being with her grandchildren. For 10 years, she and her husband also enjoyed managing an RV park in Newport during the summers and going salmon fishing.

Survivors include her son, Joseph Hardin Jr. of Monroe; daughters, Sharon Ballard of Bellfountain and Nila Jo Malcomb of Portland; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hardin in 2002; brother, Nile Alexander of Bellfountain; two half-brothers, Georgie Alexander and Orlie Alexander; two half-sisters, Zella (Alexander) McDaniel, and Fannie Alexander Haberstich Regnier of Madras.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Bellfountain Community Church, followed by burial at the Bellfountain Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of McHenry Funeral Home of Corvallis. Memorials have been suggested to the Monroe Public Library Fund.
