Mary E. Mauck, daughter of John and Amarette Mauck, was born in Suez township, Mercer County, Ill., April 20, 1846. She grew to young womanhood on the farm, receiving her education in the rural schools.

On February 20, 1868, she was united in marriage to George F. Greenwood, and with the exception of a few years in the west, their home was in Mercer County, Illinois, and for the past 35 years she had been a resident of Viola.

This union was blessed with seven children, five of whom are living: Mrs. Gertrude Thornton and Claude Greenwood of Viola; Fay W. Greenwood of Suez township, Mrs. Ethel Hanna of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mrs. Zilpha Bahrenburg of Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Agnes Frost of Rawlins, Wyo. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away May 8, 1929, a daughter, Mrs. Retta Greenwood, who died in 1903, a son, twin to Retta, who died in infancy.

She was one of a family of eight children. There survives one brother, George F. Mauck of Regina, Canada and one sister, Mrs. Alice Palmer of Viola, Ill.

She was a kind and loving mother and was devoted to her home and family. This kindness and friendship extended out among her neighbors and friends who mourn with the family at her passing.

She had been in failing health for the past two years with heart trouble and this condition became critical a week ago, and she passed away Monday evening, Nov. 17, 1930, at 8:30 p. m.

Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1930, at 2 p. m., in charge of Rev. R. E. Lemon of Rock Island, former pastor of the Viola Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Bridger cemetery in Suez township.
