Shawn P. Matthews passed into God's loving hands on Sunday, May 9, 2010, with his family by his side. He was 50.
Born in Trenton, he had lived in Springfield most of his life before moving to California, and then Cream Ridge, N.J.
He was a graduate of Northern Burlington Regional High School. He attended New York University and graduated from Rider College.
He was a teacher with the Burlington Township School System for 15 years, where he produced and directed school musicals and plays.
Shawn loved music, the arts and travel. He performed in local theatres and toured Europe with the American Youth in Concert with a performance in Carnegie Hall.
He was the son of the late Robert Stanton and Florence Matthews; brother of the late Rita Gail Eleuteri, and uncle of the late Maureen Eleuteri.
He is survived by his life partner, Eduardo Moreno of Antioch, Calif.; three sisters and three brothers-in-law: Jeanne Matthews of Cream Ridge, Florence and Al Demirtas of Houston, Texas, Eileen and Phillip Foga of Roebling, and John Eleuteri of Bordentown. Also surviving are three brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph Robert and Nancy Matthews of Robbinsville, Donald and Mary Matthews of Jobstown, and John Stanton and Betty Jane Matthews of Hamilton Township; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, one great-great-niece, an uncle, several aunts and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Saint Andrew's Church, 2489 Monmouth Road, Jobstown, N.J. Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Bordentown Township. Family and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday evening and again Saturday morning from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. at Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
