He was the son of John Alonzo Carkin and Minnie Roseanna Day He married Maud Ella Egbert on Jan. 11, 1930 in Seattle Washington.

John Alonzo Carkin, 48, repairman for the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company for 25 years, died at his home, 522 Seventh S.E., Saturday. Mr. Carkin had resided in Auburn nine years, coming here from Seattle.
He was born July 30, 1906, at Greenland, New Hampshire, and came to Puyallup at the age of 15. He lived there until his marriage at Seattle January 11. 1930 to Maude Ella Egbert, when the couple moved to Seattle.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John Douglas Carkin; two daughters, Mrs. Janet E. Peterson, Puyallup, and Mrs. Colleen M. Royer, Seattle; a granddaughter, Deborah Ann Royer; two brothers Edgar L. Carkin, Puyallup, and Lewis Carkin, Woodinville; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Kirkham, Seattle, Mrs. Sabra Wetherbee, New Hampshire, and Mrs. Lydia Woodbury, Massachusetts.
Mr. Carkin was a member of Communication Workers of America, Local 9103 and the Telephone Pioneers of America, Charles B. Hopkins Chapter No. 30.
Funeral services were held at 1p.m. Monday from the Price Chapel, with the Rev. Dan McGrew, pastor of the First Christian Church, Puyallup, officiating, and William Judkins as soloist. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Seattle.
