Sandra (Silves) Birtcil Young, 71, of Adair and Cleveland, Ga. died Friday, May 22, at the North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

She was born Feb. 4, 1938, in Oil City, Pa. to the late Clarence and Kathryn Brosius Silves. She was a 1956 graduate of Keystone High School in Knox, Pa.

She raised her children in Riverdale, Ga. She retired from the US Government, where she held numerous positions, and moved to Cleveland, Ga, with her husband, Robert A. Birtcil in 1996. He preceded her in death Sept. 4, 2001.
She moved to Adair when she married Melvin C. Young in 2002, but maintained her home in Cleveland.

She spent half her time in Adair, where she enjoyed weekly swimming at the Y and Friday night dances at the senior center. She spent half her time in Cleveland, where she enjoyed Sunday morning worships at Mountain Shadows Church, pot luck dinnners, riding around in the golf cart and just hanging out with friends. She was an avid reader and spent time communicating with family and friends on the internet.

She loved traveling with Melvin in their motor home to visit family members, and they always took their dog Brandy and cat Cathy along for the ride.

She loved her family and enjoyed bragging about them every chance she could. She touched many lives with her heart-warming personality and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin; three sons, Thomas and Kathy Birtcil, Florence, Ky, Timothy and Shelli Birtcil, Locust Grove, Ga. and Theodore and Pam Birtcil, Bell Buckle, Tenn; one daughter, Tammy and Jim Sharpe, London, Tenn.

Surviving step-children are Robert Birtcil, Jr. and wife Terry, Indianapolis, Ind., Deborah Young, Indianapolis, Ind., John Birtcil, Buchanan, Ga., Lynne and Roger Walters, Pryor and Vickie and Gene Koger, Adair.

She is survived by a sister, Roberta and John Gruber, Virginia; brother, John and Kathy Silves; sister-in-law, Kay Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Dennis Young and Stanley and Ginger Young.

Surviving grandchildren include Gina Sharpe, Mike Birtcil, Jon and Samantha Birtcil, Allen and Mandi Birtcil, Kaylae Birtcil, Tiffany and Brian Stanley, Trinty Birtcil, C.J. Sharpe, Cassie and Kevin Stallcup, Jay Birtcil and Joshua Birtcil.

Surviving step-grandchildren are Eddie Lewis, Angela and Terry Cottrell, Christy and Stephen Stephenson, Bobby Birtcil, Amber Hammons, Casey Bisi, Jayme and Justin Agan, Nick and Heather Koger, Cheryl and Robert Waltrous and Beth and Allen Reichard. Survivors also include 19 great-grandchildren, with three more expected.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Silves; a granddaughter, Ashley Birtcil and great-grandson, Joshua Stephenson.

The family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 7-9pm Wed, May 27, at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home in Knox, Pa. Funeral services will be 11am on Thurs, May 28 at the funeral home. The Rev. Pam Mansfield, pastor of St. Mark Chapel in Kossuth, Pa, will officiate.
