Miss Mary Hagen, who was more familiarly known as "Aunt Mary," died at her home in Mt. Nebo on Monday, Dec. 12, at the advanced age of 81 years. Though not confined to her bed she had been suffering from dropsy and heart trouble for several months. She is the last member of the well known Hagen family. In early life she with her brother, Joshua, was left with the care of a large family, the father having died while the children were small. Her brothers were the well known axe makers, Joshua, David and Elijah, now deceased. She was very much respected. Though advanced in years, she was loved for her jovial spirit, always having a kind word for everyone. Her funeral was held on Wednesday at the Presbyterian church in the presence of a large number of sorrowing nieces and nephews. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. H. Aspril, who spoke of the pleasant visits it had been his privilege to enjoy during her late illness. (Lancaster Intelligencer - Dec 21, 1892)
