Officer Allen received his commission on September 3, 1974, and entered the academy. After the academy, he had the following assignments: They were the 6th, 7th, Liquor Section, the 7th, Robbery-Burglary Division, and finally the Mobile Reserve Section. During his career, he was awarded six Chief's Letters of Commendation on June 07, 1976; December 15, 1979; February 5, 1980; June 25, 1980; November 12, 1980; and February 18, 1983. On August 8, 1979, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for police work above and beyond the call of duty. Officer Allen resigned from the department on February 26, 1983. At that time, he had completed 7.16 years of service. Officer Allen was also a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.
Officer Allen was buried on November 5, 1987. He was 34 years old.
