John E. Coates, 82, of Hansen, Idaho passed away on Sunday morning, March 7, 2010 at St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls.
John was born on April 23, 1927 in Richfield, Idaho the son of George W. and Helen M. Shelley Coates.
He grew up and attended schools in the Richfield area.
Following high school, John entered into the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly in WWII until he was Honorably Discharged.
Following his service he returned to Idaho where he farmed in Murtaugh and Hansen areas as well as worked for Amalgamated Sugar Company until he retired in 1983.
In February 1948, John married Ruby Garechana in Gooding, Idaho.
Together they had three children, Keith , Katherine and Kevan.
John was well known as a square dancing caller for many years.
He and Ruby were long time members of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Twin Falls.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Coates of Hansen; his daughter, Katherine Hall of Graham, Washington; his two sons, Keith Coates of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kevan Coates of Guilford, Indiana; as well as his sister, Mary Miller of Mt. Dora, Florida; and his brother, William Coates of Filer.
He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and many brothers and sisters.
A Rosary Prayer Service will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, March 11, 2010 at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, 2466 Addison Ave. East, Twin Falls with Deacon John Hurley reciting.
A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given in John's name to St. Edward's Catholic School.
Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to St. Edward's Catholic School, 139 6th Ave. East, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
