He served in WWI as a 2nd Lt. 68th Machine Gun Company in Sheridan, AL. War ended before company was shipped out. He never married.

OBITUARY: Joseph Sidney Leftwich, 71, of Evington, died unexpectedly November 6 in a Richmond hospital where he had been a patient three months.

He was a son of the late Lynch A. and Julia Abbott Leftwich and was a retired mail carrier. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Adelia Alcock of Evington and Mrs. Julia Matthews of Lynchburg and three brothers, Willie L. Leftwich of Lynchburg, Daniel S. Leftwich of Brownsville, TX and Lynch E. Leftwich of Richmond.

Funeral services were conducted November 9 from Fauber's Chapel in Lynchburg. Burial was in Mount Carmel Methodist Church cemetery near Goode.
