Lillian D. Barr was born in Short Creek, Ohio, January 16, 1882. She passed away December 20, 1943, aged 61 years, 11 months and 4 days, at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, Neb., where she had been taken from her home in Fairmont.

She was the third daughter of David. F. and Mary Frances Barr. When two years old, she came with her parents to Nebraska and lived in Fairmont, Strang and Lincoln.

November 8, 1899, she was married to Elwood Bender. To this union were born two sons and three daughters. One son and two daughters died in infancy. She is survived by her husband; her son Paul E. and daughter, Mrs. Elsie Fisher of Strang; two brothers, George L. and John M., both of Los Angeles, Cal., and two sisters, Maude Barr of Plattsmouth and Mrs. Ralph George of O'Neill.

In September, 1942, Mrs. Bender suffered a stroke of paralysis which, although scarcely noticeable to others, caused her much pain and gradually brought complications which ended her life.

Mrs. Bender has been a member of Fairmont Methodist church, ever since going there as a bride, a member of the choir for years and at one time was church pianist, and was a member of Star Rebekah Lodge No. 8. During World War No. 1, she earned a medal for Red Cross work, and always kept up her membership.

She was a staunch friend, a good neighbor, a lover of the beautiful, a patient sufferer. Her trust in God was her greatest comfort.

Funeral services were held at the Fairmont Methodist Church at 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, December 22, the pastor, Rev. L.A. Fishel officiating. The singers were Mrs. Rufus Dado, Mrs. Mabel Quinlan, Oliver Moul and W.E. Black; with Mrs. A.A. Ashby at the organ. Interment was in the family plot in the Fairmont cemetery. Pallbearers were Clyde Michaels, William Boren, Tom Patton, Harry Bergstrand, George Schepers and John Bettger.
