Jasper was the son of Enos Commons and his first wife, Delilah Sanders. His parents were married abt 1838 in Wayne County, Indiana where his older brother
Nathan was born.

Jasper & his brother Nathan both Enlisted in Company G, Illinois 124th Infantry Regiment on 29 Jul 1862, residence listed as New Boston, Mercer County, IL. They
mustered in on 10 Sep 1862. Brother Nathan was taken prisoner and paroled during the Civil War. He Mustered out on 15 Aug 1865 at Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL.
Jasper was wounded twice in Civil War battles.

On Oct 21, 1875 Jasper married Ella C Long, daughter of John Long, in Harvey County, Kansas. Jasper and Ella lived in Harvey County, Kansas until about 1906.

Jasper died in 1923 at the age of 79. He was proceeded in death by his parents, five siblings; Nathan, Louisa J, twins John & Martha and Orpha.
