Sophus Clausen
Sophus Clausen, 81, Ihlen, died July 3 at the Pipestone County Medical Center. Funeral services were July 6 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Jasper with Rev. Donald Andrix officiating. Special music was provided by Mrs. Donavon Claussen, organist.
Pallbearers were Dr. Jeffrey Claussen, James Clausen, Steve Lopau, Glen Baden, Ronald and Mark Nielsen. Interment was in the Ihlen Cemetery.
Sophus Cluasen was born to George and Anna Skok Clausen on March 13, 1904 on the family farm in Elmer Township where he was raised and received his education. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Jasper.
He married Irene Thill on June 30, 1928 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following their marriage they farmed until retiring in 1967 at which time they moved to Ihlen. He is a former church trustee and served as the Ihlen city assessor for several years. He loved the outdoors and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; four children, Mrs. Elaine (Howard) Nielsen, Beresford, S.D., Dr. Donavon Claussen, Austin, Mrs. Doreen (John) Verdoes, Edgerton and Eugene Claussen, Stewartville; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Larsen, Sioux falls, S.D. and Alma Lunzmann, St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
