OBITUARY
HARRIET POORE DIES; USEFUL LIFE ENDED

The death of Mrs. Harriet Poore, aged 63 years, 10 months and 26 days, occurred at her home near No. 14 mine Thursday morning, March 5, at 3:00 o'clock. Deceased was only sick a few days and while her death was not expected so soon the relatives entertained no hopes for her ever regaining health. During her short illness she was tenderly cared for by relatives and the members of the Rebekah Lodge.
Harriet Jarman was born in North Carolina, April 9, 1844, and came to this city at the age of three years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ezekial Jarman, they being among the first settlers. The family bought land and soon prospered and at the present day the name of Jarman is one of the oldest and most respected in Staunton. Mrs. Poore was the last surviving member of the family, her brother, Wiley Jarman, being killed at No. 14 mine a little over a year ago.
She was united in marriage to Jas. Poore, who preceded her in death several years ago.
To the union two children, a boy and a girl were born, Harry Poore, who has always resided with his mother and Mrs. Ada Bond, wife of Charlie Bond, who has resided in Oklahoma since last fall.
Besides her children she was related to many families here and her friends and acquaintances are numberless.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. P.R. Glotfelty, under the auspices of the Rebekah Lodge, No. 657, at the Christian Church at 2:00 o'clock P.M. Friday, March 6, and the funeral procession to the City Cemetery, where the burial took place, was very large.
Mrs. Poore was a charter member of the Rebekahs and her's is the first death to occur in the membership of the lodge.
