OBITUARY
Helen Virginia Carrasco passes away
Long time island resident Helen Carrasco passed away on April 17 1993 in Avalon Hospital's skilled nursing unit. She was 92.
Born in San Francisco at the turn of the century, she came to the island with her husband, Ralph, in 1948. They owned and operated Ralph's Waffle Shop on the current Metropole Avenue site of the Catalina Conservancy.
During the '50s and '60s, Carrasco was hostess for Joe Arno at St. Catherine's Hotel in Descanso Beach, as well as several other establishments around town.
A member of the local Traffic Review Board, she was involved in various phases of Island politics from her Clarissa home.
Last November, Carrasco moved into the hospital's skilled nursing facility where she resided until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ralph, and her brother, Charlie Thierry - both Island residents.
Carrasco leaves behind two nieces, Marianne Thierry and Muriel Harvey; nephew Henry Thierry; and great nieces Margie Lindsay and Bernadette Miller.
Funeral Mass was said at St. Catherine's Church on Wednesday, April 21. Internment
followed at the Avalon Cemetery.
