Gallard Call Carr, age 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 2, 2002.
He was born August 24, 1906 in Bountiful, Utah, the first of ten children of Willard and Annie Call Carr. He married Laura Lambert in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 24, 1925 and has been a resident of Farmington ever since that time. Following the death of Laura on January 22, 1989, he married Viola Linford on June 30, 1989.
Gallard grew up in the printing industry (Carr Printing in Bountiful), then spent 16 years as a grower with Miller Floral, then a carpenter and builder at Hill Field. In 1926 he planted eight blocks of Farmington's sycamore trees which shade Main Street, watering them by hand. During the Second World War and after, for 26 years, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman, then as a locomotive engineer. After his retirement, he continued to do masonry work and remodel many homes in the area. He was a long time water master for Steed Creek Irrigation Company.
He was First Chair violinist in the McCune Symphony for many years, having studied with Arthur Freber for ten years. He played in the orchestra for the Centennial Pageant in the Tabernacle in 1930. Gallard was an active member of the Farmington Fifth Ward. He served as the secretary for groups such as the Elders, Seventies, and High Priests; as a High Priest Group Leader and instructor; a Sunday School teacher; First Counselor in a Farmington bishopric, librarian in three wards as well as the stake, having rebuilt part of the stake library, and as an Ogden Temple ordinance worker for 19 years.
Gallard is survived by his wife, Viola Linford Carr of Ogden; two brothers, Vernon (Violet) Carr and Venice (Audrey) Carr; a sister, Sylvia Tingey; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura, and their daughter, Laura Annavar Perry.
The family expresses thanks to the members of the Rocky Mountain Chancellor Branch and their leaders for their many kindnesses, the employees of Rocky Mountain Care of Clearfield for services rendered while in their care, and the members of the community for their love and concern.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Steed Creek LDS Chapel, 347 South 200 West, Farmington, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday from 11:45 - 12:45 at the church prior to services. Interment-Farmington City Cemetery.
