BERN --- Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Bern for Florence M. Brunner, 96, formerly of Bern, who died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at a Sabetha retirement home where she lived since 1999.

She was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Bern, to Frederick and Adelaide Lavina Clement Gugelman. She spent her early life in the Bern community and graduated from Bern High School. She formerly was head cook for the Bern school district.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bern and was active in the Sunday school at the church.

She married Tim Brunner on Dec. 27, 1933, in Vermillion. They lived in the Fidelity, Fairview and Bern communities. He died in 1951, and she moved into Bern where she lived until 1999. A grandson, David Ward, died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Charles Brunner, Topeka; two daughters, Joyce Cibulski, Topeka, and Janice Lindberg, Liverpool, N.Y.; a brother, Bill Gugelman, Bern; three sisters, Hazel Strahm, Sabetha, Mildred Tegtmeier, Pawnee City, Neb., and Marjorie Allison, Seneca; five grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Bern Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Bern or the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha is in charge of arrangements.
