I.S. Mullins, 67, who owned a grocery store in Panhandle for about 10 years until he left here about 10 years ago, died at his home, 310 Coble street, Borger, at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12. He had been in ill health for several months.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Borger, by Rev. Paul B. Cullen, pastor, officiating with Rev. J.N. Hunt, former pastor, assisting.

Burial was in Panhandle cemetery under the direction of Blackburn-Shaw-Powell Funeral Home.

During his years in Panhandle, he was prominent in civic and church affairs. He served as superintendent of the First Baptist Church Sunday school for several years and had a prominent part in erection of the present church.

His store was in a building near the city hall during the early part of the oil boom in 1926. Then, he erected the building now occupied by the Carson County Abstract Co. and later moved to the building south of the Night & Day Garage, where he remained in business until he sold out.

Panhandle schools closed all day Tuesday in tribute to Mr. Mullins, who was the father-in-law of Sam Lanning, school trustee.

Survivors are his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Larue Lanning of Panhandle, Mrs. Odell Coffee of Borger, Mrs. Loreta Fae Box of Borger and four grandchildren.

Friends attending the services at Borger said the church was packed in tribute to Mr. Mullins.

Mullins was a salesman for E.L. Keith during his residence in Borger. Prior to that he was in the grocery business for 16 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Borger.

Out of town relatives attending the services were C.D. Mullins of Electra, brother; Mrs. Mattie Brown of Alvord, Marvin Brite of Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Brite of Bowie, Mr. and Mrs. O.Y. Gallaway of Rocky, Okla., Mrs. J.C. Key of Rocky, and Lee Gallaway of Rocky. A brother, D.D. Mullins of Burkburnett, is ill and was unable to attend.

Acting as pallbearers were E.L. Keith, F.P. Smithey, C.S. Hansard, Robert Boshart, J.L. Sands, Paul West. Honorary pallbearers were C.H. Hipple, Aubrey King, J.F. Boles, Walter Forbes, A.A. Meredith, Charles W. Moser, C.E. Box, E.J. Bones, W.J. Goodwin, R.G. Rhodes, Ray Ragland, and Ralph E. Bayless.

Flower girls were Mrs. A.E. Mrs. J.L. Sands, Mrs. Mary Head, Mrs. Gertrude Wideman, Mrs. Ruby Faye Johnson, Mrs. P.H. West, Mrs. G.W. Forbes, Mrs. L.B. Vance, Mrs. Howard Lyons, and Mrs. Raymond Keith.
