DIES;SICK A WEEK

Mrs Katherine M. Bishop of
Clinton Succumbs to
Pneumonia
Clinton April 10 Mrs Katherine
M Bishop aged 70 years died at
the family residence, 805 N. Monroe
street at noon today. Mrs Bishop was
one of the most highly esteemed wo-
men in DeWitt county and leaves a
host of friends not only through her
long association with the Presbyter-
ian church of this city, but of min-
isters of the Presbyterian church
throughtout the country, with whom
she came in contact. Mrs Bishop was
one of the charter members of the
Presbyterian church and for years was
president of the Womens Foreigh Mis-
sionary society, resigning that office
two years ago. she was not only
prominet in church work but was lov-
ed and esteemed throughtout the city
by every one who knew her.
About a week ago she contracted a
severe cold. Wednesday she was se-
riously ill and the physician diagnosed
her case as pnemonia. From that time
she grew rapidly worse. Wednesday
Dr. Brown of Decatur was called and
later Dr. William E. Quine of Chicago,
a specialist was called to attend her.
While Mrs. Bishop suffered a great
deal during her short illness the last
hour was peaceful and she passed
quietly away. With the exception of a
son Harry all of her children were at
the deathbed.
Mrs. Bishop was born in Chicago
on Dec 24 1838. soon after that
time her family moved to Washington
D.C. and then to Waynesville, where
they lived until they moved to Clinton
57 years ago. Clinton was the
home of Mrs. bishop from that time.
Besides receiving a common school
education, she attended an academy at
Marietta, Ohio and was graduated from
that institution.
Marry on Birthday.
On December 24 1859 her birthday
anniversary, she married to Wil-
liam Bishop in Clinton. Then went to
housekeeping at the 805 North
Monroe street where Mrs. Bishop had
lived until her death.
Her husband who was a dealer
in grain and was for many years Mayor
of this city died in 1889. Four children
were born and all are living. They
are Mrs. Minnie M Warner wife of
Vespasian Warner. Untied States
Commissioner of Pensions Washing-
ton D.C. Mrs. Grace B. McIntosh of
Akron O. Mrs. Maud B Warner of
Clinton and Harry Bishop who is in
the West.
Mrs. Bishop was a charter member
of the Presbyterian church which was
organized in this city in 1853. She
was an attentive church worker and
but few services passed at which she
was not present. She was never idle
in her church work and was very suc-
cessful, especially in the Sunday
school department where she always
had a class even up to her last illness.
During the Civil War Mrs. Bishop
was a tireless worker helping sack
grain and prepare hospital bandages
and supplies. She never tired of tell-
ing a reminiscence of Abraham Lin-
coln, particularly of the time he came
to Clinton and attended services at the
Presbyterian church.
The funeral will be held from the
house Tuesday morning at 10:30. The
services will be conducted by Rev. Wil-
liam H Fulton of the Presbyterian
church. Interment will be in Woodlawn
cemetery.
