MATILDA A. (MYERS) COWLEY
Matilda was the sixth daughter and eighth child born to Col Andrew & Mary (Lloyd) Myers. Matilda's parents and her six oldest siblings arrived in Wayne County, Indiana in 1830. She was born in Feb 1833. In 1836, when Matilda was 3 years old the family moved again, overland (trip occupying one month), to Mercer county, Illinois.

Matilda married James Cowley on 1/27/1859 in Mercer County. James parents are listed as being born in Kentucky, but does not list their names. His mother's name was Nancy Cardwell and I THINK his father's name may have been James.

CHILDREN OF MATILDA MYERS & JAMES COWLEY:
Byron Cowley, b. 1860, Iowa,
William M. Cowley, b. 1864, Illinois;
Genoa L. Cowley, b. 1867, Iowa.

MATILDA & JAMES COWLEY CENSUS RECORDS
Shortly after their marriage they went to Wapello, Iowa where their oldest son Byron was born. Also in the 1860's The family of Matilda & James Cowley are found living in Duncan, Mercer County, IL in 1863 & 1865.

By the 1870's and 1880's they are found living back in Eddyville, Wapello County, Iowa and James Cowley, age 49 is listed as a druggist in 1880. Matilda & James son Byron is listed in the 1880 census as a printer, so he was probably working Matilda's brother Levi Myers, who was the Owner-Editor of The Wappello Republican Newspapers in Wappello, Iowa.

In the 1900 census the couple are living in Liberal, Barton County, located in Ozark Township, Missouri. A 14 year old grandson, Merle Cowley is with them. Matilda died Dec 10, 1904 in Sunset Place, King County, Seattle, Washinton. James died of pneumiona shortly after Matilda's death on Jan 31, 1905.
