Early abstracts reveal that another town called New London was started a short distance south of Palmira. In clearing a title recently, Chester Roquet had to sign an affidavit affirming that the village no longer existed.

OBITUARY

Chester A. Roquet, Retired Farmer of Fremont, Found Dead

Fremont (Special)--Chester A. Roquet, 83, retired farmer, was found dead at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday in an outbuilding near his home in Fremont.

He had taken his life by hanging, according to Coroner John Newman. Mrs. Ruth Taylor, house-keeper for the Roquets, found the body when she investigated his absence. Roquet's wife has been an invalid for the past 10 years.

Born in Keokuk county east of Fremont on Sept. 25, 1874, the son of Lewis and Margaret Yeoman Roquet, he was married to Florence King on Jan. 6, 1897, and they lived on a farm east of Fremont until their retirement in 1950.

Also surviving are two sons, Glenn and Virgil, both of Hedrick, two daughters, Mrs. Charles Meier of Hedrick and Mr.s Frank Edison of Wichita, Kan. five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: three brothers Ira of Fremont, Hamer of Long Beach, Calif. and Earl of Des Moines; and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Robbins of Ottumwa. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fremont funeral chapel, to be conducted by Rev. Norbert Fischer, assisted by Rev. J. W. Garbison. Burial will be in Cedar Township cemetery.
