Jane the eldest of eight children born in London.Married Thomas in 1840, a devoted wife and loyal supporter.A cause near to her heart was university education for women,which in those times was virtually non existant in England.Serious planning for this type of college started in 1874.A year later in 1875 Jane died suddenly from bronchitis.Thomas devastated spent a prodigious amount of time and effort in the creation of their project.In 1886 Royal Holloway College was opened by Queen Victoria.
