Note: March 15, 2011 received this email. "Mary is the daughter of Joseph Jefferson Howell and Sarah Forrester who came to Stone Co., MO from Lincoln Co., TN about 1852. Robert and Mary were married around 1874. The Julia Batson who appears on the 1880 census is actually Lucy Batson, born Nov 25, 1876 (1875?), died Sept 26, 1936 near Billings. She never married and lived with Robert's brother George Washington Batson who was married to Florinda (Flora) M. Howell, Mary's younger sister. Lucy's death certificate shows father as Robert B. Batson and mother as Mary E. Howell. I believe that Mary E. Batson died between 1880 and 1890 as Robert Benton Batson married Gillie Ann Hagewood about 1890, per 1900 and 1910 census." Ken Soper.

ibid, March 16, 2011: "It is believed that Mary's father Joseph Jefferson Howell died in the Civil War and may be buried elsewhere.

"After the death of Joseph, Mary's mother Sarah married Stephen Batson (1807-1875) who was also the father of Mary's husband Robert by a previous marriage. Sarah was recorded on the 1900 census in Republic, MO living with her daughter Minerva Sullivan and husband Hiram."
