Lydia Gilbert, dau. of Cornet Jonathan Gilbert & Mary Wells, was b. Oct. 3, 1654 at Hartford, Conn.

In circa 1673, prob. at Hartford, Conn., Lydia m. 1) Stephen Richardson, s. Amos Richardson and Mary Smith, b. at Boston, Mass. June 14 (bapt. June 20), 1652. He d. at Stonington, Conn. betw. July 2, 1694 and Aug. 10, 1694, Æ 45. Their children are outlined in their father's memorial.

Lydia m. 2) before 23 May 1700 (date of her mother's Hartford will when called Lydia Chapman) as his 3rd wife, Capt. John Chapman of Saybrook and Haddam, Conn., latter where she d. ca. December 1711. There were no children of Lydia's second marriage.

Note: (1) The year 1700 as Lydia's marriage to Capt. Chapman is a marker simply to reflect the sequence of her marriages. When they actually married in not of record, but was in or after 1694. (2) The field stone at the Old Cover Burial Ground marked "L C 1711" is that of Lydia. The maintainer of the memorial for Lydia's second husband will be revising Capt. Chapman's memorial.
