Obituary, Chronicle Independent (Camden, SC) April 24, 2006: Wayne Smith - Wayne "Winky Dink" Smith, 62, of Camden, husband of Diane McAvoy Smith, died Sunday, April 16, at Kershaw County Medical Center. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late James Clyburn Smith and Colzie E. Smith. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and was a self-employed painting contractor. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Douglas W. Smith and wife, Ashley, of Bethune; a stepdaughter, Melinda Hucks of Lugoff; three stepsons, Dennis McAvoy and wife, Karen, Eric McAvoy and wife, Teresa, and Emanuel McAvoy and wife, Greta, all of Lugoff; a sister, Nancy Stokes and husband, Jim, of Greer; two brothers, Sim Smith and wife, Jewel, and Jesse Smith and wife, Betty, all of Camden; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Sim Smith and the Rev Eric McAvoy officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Methodist Church cemetery in Kershaw County. The family received friends Tuesday night and will receive friends at other times at the home, 78 Humphries Road, Camden. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, S.C. Chapter, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201-2392. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge.
