From "The History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties, Pennsylvania -- 1884" Early Pioneers
Other early settlers were: Peter Bowlin, George Enos, U. N. Nicholson, Jacob Snyder, Jacob Weimer, William Critchfield, John Dull, Frederick Weimer; Francis Phillippi, and others. The first township election was held at the home of John Shaff.

Jacob D. Snyder, a native of this state, was born in 1790, and settled in Milford township in 1821. He died in 1865. The names of his children are Daniel, Dewalt, Levi, Peter, Lydia and Susan. The sons are among the prominent and enterprising farmers of Milford.

According to the early works of Miles J. Snyder (1920's), Jacob and wife Elizabeth Fritz lived between Somerset and Mechanicsburg "back of Berlin". Had their family in Black Twp.
Jacob and Elizabeth's marriage is recorded in the E.C. Saylor Book of records of the Lutheran Church records, Berlin, Somerset Co., Pa. Jacob Cribler was the Pastor.

Dewalt Snyder (Schneider) Family Bible Notes:

From the bible transcripts done by Minnie Snyder in the 1920's it is learned that Jacobs baptismal witnesses were his uncle Jacob Fetter and Catheran Huber. They gave him the name Jacob.
