FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES IN HAGERSTOWN
Simon S. Yeager Expires at Son's Home After Short Illness
Simon S. Yeager, 87, former resident of Shamokin, died at 5:00
yesterday afternoon in Hagerstown, Md. at the home of his son, Dr.
Howard Yeager. Death was attributed to an acute dilatation of the
heart.
Despite his advanced age, the deceased enjoyed good health, and the
day before his illness was outside his home. He was stricken
acutely ill Wednesday afternoon and became bedfast, and died 24
hours later.
Mr. Yeager was born in Elysburg, a son of Henry and Rebecca (Shenk)Yeager. He was reared and educated there, and later resided in Bear Gap, where he was an engineer at the pumping station of the Roaring Creek Water Company. In 1900 he moved to Shamokin where he resided until three years ago. He lived in Hagerstown since then. While a resident of this city the deceased was employed at one of the region collieries until he retired.
Surviving are two children, Dr. Yeager with whom he resided, and Miss Mary R. Yeager, also of Hagerstown. There are three
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 tomorrow afternoon from the Farrow Funeral Home, 608 North Liberty Street. Rev. B.B. Davidson, pastor of Lincoln Street M. E. Church, of which Mr. Yeager was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Summit Baptist Cemetery, Irish Valley. The body can be viewed at the funeral home this evening between 7:00
and 9:00.
