The Jasper Daily Courier of June 6, 1887, had his obituary:
"Old Uncle Daniel Jones died at Bedford Philips', near our town, last Monday, about noon. Uncle Daniel, was about 80 years old, deranged and almost blind. He was a late war veteran, and was drawing a pension at the rate of $8 per month. His remains were laid to rest Tuesday at the Jones' family grave yard, in Martin County."
