HERBERT C. HUNSAKER, 88 Professor emeritus of adult education at Purdue University, died Wednesday in George Davis Manor after a brief illness. He was born in White Salmon, Wash., in 1898. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, his masters degree from Columbia, his LL. B degree from the University of Newark and was awarded honorary doctorates from Parsons College and Lake Erie College. Professor Hunsaker joined Purdue in 1955 as a professor of adult education and assistant director division of adult education. During his tenure at Purdue he made a major contribution to the development of awareness of the problems of the aged. He left Purdue in 1962 to become an Adult Education Advisor to USAID...where he had special responsibilities in the field of Literacy Education for Adults; he served the United States Department of State in Ankara, Turkey and Kabul, Afghanistan. From 1969 to 1972 he continued his work in the field of World Education and worked as a field representative in the Near East, Far East and South Asia. He retired from World Education in 1972 and began a series of tours to China for Adult Educators. He was affiliated with the Federated Church of West Lafayette; Lafayette Rotary Club and the University Club. He was also a member of the board of Trustees of Lake Erie College. Professor Hunsaker was active in Adult Education in Indiana and a member of the Indiana Sate Commission on Aging. He served as President of the Adult Education Association of the U.S. in 1959 and as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in January 1961. *obituary kindly shared by Ron Stephens
