Robert Stagner cut a dashing figure in his Spanish-American uniform in 1900. He swept a young beautiful Annie East off her feet. She was 16 years old when they married May 8, 1901 in Beaumont, Texas. He was 24.

The newlyweds moved to Crystal City where Robert tried his hand in real estate. Tragically his wife Annie died in 1914 at age 29 shortly after giving birth to their fourth child.

Robert and his children moved to Dallas where Robert worked as a barber. Robert always stayed closed to his children - Hazel, Lucille, Robert, Jr, Anne - throughout his life.
