James "Jim" David Ebner
James "Jim" David Ebner died on Friday April, 30, 2010 at St Catharine's Village in Madison, Mississippi, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson, Mississippi until Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Lincoln Dall. Interment in Wright and Ferguson on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland.
Born in Mt. Angel, Oregon on June 14, 1935, Jim was the second child of Albert Alphonsus Ebner and Angela Cottmire Ebner. Jim was a graduate of Oregon State University, received his Masters of Occupational Therapy degree at the University of Minnesota, and joined the United States Public Health Service. He was assigned to the Gillis W. Long Hansen's Disease Center in Carville, Louisiana, where he served for 15 years before being transferred to Houston, Texas where he continued his graduate studies at the University of Texas School of Public Health. In 1973, he received the United States Public Health Service Meritorious Award. In 1993, after serving 30 years in the United States Public Health Service, he retired at the rank of Captain as Director of Occupational Therapy at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Aimee Ebner Barker and Mark Allen Barker of Dallas, Texas, and four sons and a daughter-in-law: James David Ebner, Jr. of Los Angeles, California, John Augustine Ebner of Jacksonville, Florida, Conrad Baker Ebner, Sr. and Renee Richardson Ebner of Jackson, Mississippi and Christian Albert Ebner of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is survived by four grandchildren: Austin Allen Barker and Marguerite Stirling Barker, of Dallas, and Alexandra Stirling Ebner and Conrad Barker Ebner Jr. of Jackson. Jim is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Ebner Schmidt and Lawrence Schmidt of Springfield, Oregon, his sister-in-law Ann Ebner of Mt. Angel, Oregon [brother: Jerome Ebner], as well as eight nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Ebner, John Ebner, Conrad Ebner, Christian, Mark Barker, Austin Barker, William Richardson, Jesse Graham, and Patrick Welsh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests designated memorial gifts be sent to the Mississippi Children's Museum, Post Office Box 55409, Jackson, Mississippi 39296-5409. Wright & Ferguson, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, Mississippi is handling the arrangements.
