James Whittaker (JW) was born December 9 1883 the seventh child of Amos Griswold and Mary Whittaker Thornton, and the youngest of 16 children from two marriages.
He had a wonderful childhood and being the youngest of such a large family he was "spoiled" as he said.
His sisters and brothers are as follows:
Mary Alice, Amos Whittaker, Lydia Meechum, Oliver Griswold, Rachel G., Ellen(Nellie)Lunt, Sarah May, Hattie Mariah, JW being the last child born to this family.
Jw married Tillie Green in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 7, 1908 daughter of Mr and Mrs John Hyrum Green of Layton, Utah. She passed away 5 months later of appendicitis on March 12, 1909
JW married met and then later married Nellie Schofield onSeptember 13, 1911 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
They had 3 children Read, Mary and then James Whittaker who lived only 5 days. Nellie passed away on September 14, 1943. She had been sick for some time the Dr's. didn't know what was wrong with her..
JW met a friend from long ago and they married Dec 26, 1944 Mary Gardner was from Delta, Utah. She has never married and they married in the Salt Lake City Temple. They never had any children.

Jw went on a 3 year mission to Switzerland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day- Saints. April 21, 1903
He continued his education. He worked hard, had different jobs, lived in different parts of Utah.
In 1923 He was teaching in Provo then he become Principal in 1926 of Provo Senior Hish School. Then went on to bcome principal of Farrer Junior High Schools. He was very much loved by everyone.
In 1927 they brought their home in Provo Utah, where he was still living with Mary when he died.

James Whittaker Thronton, 77, 410 N 2nd E., prominent Provo educator and civic worked, died this morning at utah Vally Hospital of a sudden illness.
Mr Thornton was principal of the Farrer Junior High School for 23 years and served in other capacities in the field of education for more than 50 years.
He was born Dec 9, 1883 in Pinto, Washington County, a son of Amos And Mary Whittaker Thronton. He married Nellie Schofrield September 13, 1911, She died December 14, 1943, He married Mary Gardner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple December 26, 1944.
He was active in Political circles, a staunch member of the Democratic Party and served as state senator.
He servied one year as president of the Utah Education Association.
