Three Score. Margaret Bunch, who taught in this state and elsewhere for more than 60 years, retired at the age of 80. Her first school was in West Virginia. It had three rooms and she had a Normal School certificate entitling her to operate it. Later she attended the University of Kentucky and there earned her A.B., M.A. and a Principal's Certificate. In 1958 she was 65 and that meant retirement, which is compulsory at that age in West Virginia. Undaunted, she went to Idaho, where they also have some mountains, and taught there for a year, retirement not being so mandatory in that state. But her sister was ill, so she returned to West Virginia and after the death of her sister went to Florida. After some discussions about her age she was hired by the Fort Pierce school system in the Sunshine State and worked until she was 70, which is the mandatory quitting age there. Then, she went to work at St. Anastasia's School, a private institution which does not concern itself with mandatory retirement at all. Her comment? "After two days away from the children I'm anxious to get back."
