David L. Coleman, 73, of London Rd., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 in St. Lukes Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 25, 1929, in Mountain Iron, to Herbert and Harriet Coleman, living in Duluth since age one. He married Nancy A. Cameron on May 31, 1958, in Duluth. David served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and the Minnesota Air National Guard, for a total of 39 years, retiring in 1989 as Senior Master Sergeant. He was president of Allied Taxi and was co-founder and co-owner of the former Wilcol Ambulance Company. He was instrumental in the founding of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Rescue Squad. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, West Duluth, American Legion Post No. 71, Ham Radio Operators Assoc., and a lifetime member of the Duluth-Superior Racing Association. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. David was former president of the NCO Club at the Duluth Air National Guard Base, and had been Non Commissioned Officer of the year in 1982. He enjoyed stock car racing as a member of the Nelson Racing Team, and being a ham radio operator. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Richard, and Jack Coleman. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Yvonne (Richard 'Swede') Olson of Hermantown, Debbra Coleman of Orlando, Fla., Brenda (Tom) Anderson of McGregor, Scott Coleman of Duluth, Sandra (Joe) Anderson of Proctor, and James Coleman of Duluth; sister, Mary C. Kennedy of Silver Springs, Md.; close family friend, Jeanne Hunker of Orlando Fla; grandchildren, Jason Coleman, Christopher, Brandon, and Brianne Olson, Andrea Monson, Stephanie Coleman, and Ryan and Ben Anderson.
