Clarence Melbourn Cole, 77, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, In McAllen.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Stinnett Church of Christ in Stinnett with Zeb Sailors, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo, 2820 Virginia Circle.

Mr. Cole was born April 25, 1925, in Southard, Okla., to Ulysses S. Cole and Virgie May Walters Cole. He was a longtime Sanford resident. He was active in various activities in the Panhandle including golfing, music, bowling and he was a referee for football, basketball and baseball. He was a master carpenter and always willing to help.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Philippines and activated with the Oklahoma National Guard to serve in the Army from September 1950 through May 1952, being awarded the Bronze Star during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Cole on Aug. 16, 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Benn; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Cole of Kingfisher, Okla., and Frank Chad Cole of Amarillo; three daughters, Toni Sue Mills of Stinnett, Jennifer Grimes of Oklahoma City and Teresa McConnell of Edmond, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Karen Benn and Nancy Lindbeck, both of Cook, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Honorary pallbearers are fellow employees of Phillips Petroleum Co. and fellow golfers everywhere.

The family suggests memorials be to The Word at Work, 1400 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, TX 79109; or a favorite charity.
