A former lunchroom employee of Central High School, then caregiver for many in Baton Rouge, Lonnie Wilson Pickering died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. She was 98, a resident of Zachary and a native of Brookhaven, Miss.
Arrangements entrusted to Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary. Burial in Pickering Family Cemetery, Zachary.
She is survived by 13 grandchildren, Gregory Pickering, Barbara Moak, Loretta Jarreau, Martha Carline, Dallas Pickering, Karen McIntyre, Marsha Reis, Guy Pickering, Rodney Pickering, Danny Wayne Pickering, Sharon Pickering, Kyle Pickering and Kayla Pickering; three daughters-in-law, Dorothy Pickering, Ruby Pickering and Charlene Pique; 33 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Pickering; parents, Willie and Florence Wilson; sons, J.Z., Dennis, Lloyd and Alex "Teat" Pickering Jr.; infant daughter, Lonie Lour; grandson, Dennis Pickering Jr.; five sisters and four brothers.
She was an avid gardener.
