Dr. Simril Faulkner Bryant, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa, Ala., will preach the graduation sermon for County Junior College and the Ellisville High School. The service will he held Sunday evening, May 19, at R o'clock in the gymnasium auditorium. Dr. Bryant, who was licensed and ordained in Mississippi and who married a Mississippian and has served as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Okolnna, Miss., will be welcomed by many friends when he returns for graduation exercises next Sunday. He was born in Newman, Georgia, and was educated in North Caroline and Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Davidson College and his Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the Union theological Seminary, Richmond, Va. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Arkansas College. Dr. Bryant's first pastorate was in Okolona, from 1928 to 1931. The next was in Helena, Ark., from 1931 to 1937; then, in Little Rock from 1937 to 1946; and since 1946, he has served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa with a membership of 1,086. Dr. Bryant is a past president of the Tuscaloosa Ministerial Association, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Kiwanis Club, and many other important civic positions in his home city. He has the honor of being listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest. The public is cordiality invited to the religious services honoring the graduating classes.

Little Rock Minister Accepts Charge Here

Dr. Simril Faulkner Bryant, pastor of the Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Ark. for the past nine years, has accepted the call to serve as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church here, it was announced Saturday by Owen Meredith, Sr., chairman of the pastoral Committee of the church.

Dr. Bryant will succeed Dr. Warner Hall who retires his pastorship here last February to serve as Minister of Second Presbyterian Church ain Charlotte, N. C.

A native of Newnan, Ga., Dr Bryant holds degrees from Union Theological Seminary, Davidson College and Arkansas College. His first pastorate iwas at Okolona, Miss. in 1928. In 1931 Dr. Bryant accepted a call from a church at Helena, Ark., which he served until 1936 when he went to Little Rock.

In addition to his ministerial duties, Dr Bryant has served on the board of Employment Service for the Blind in Arkansas, is a member of the Board of the Arkansas Children's Home, is director of the young peoples conference and moderator of the Presbytery in Arkansas and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Arkansas College. He is a 32nd degree Mason.

In 1931 the minister married, Miss Emily Pearl Walker of Carthage, Miss., and they have a 13-year-old son, Simril Faulkner Bryant, Jr. Dr. Bryant is 42 years old.

"Dr. Bryant comes to us with the highest recommendations not only from leaders in the church but laymen," Mr. Meredith said. "During his stay in Little Rock he has been active both in church and civic affairs in this community and state. We feel fortunate to be able to bring a man of Dr. Bryant's ability to Tuscaloosa."

Membership of the Pulaski Heights Church in Little Rock is smaller than the First Presbyterian Church here but it has the largest Sunday school in the state, Mr Meredith said.

Dr. Bryant is scheduled to come to Tuscaloosa around Oct. 1 and will preach his first sermon here on Oct. 13th.

Prior to that time Rev. Malcolm McEver, Presbyterian student pastor at the University, will carry on the pastoral duties of the downtown church and will continue as University pastor after Dr. Bryant arrives.
