LONGWOOD, NC – Gurtie Hewett Long, 82, Pireway Road, Longwood, NC, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Center, Wilmington, NC. Mrs. Long was born on September 13, 1921, in Brunswick County. NC. She was a daughter of the late Hilliard and Rose Ella Smith Hewett. She was a widow of WA Long to whom she was married for 42 years and a devoted homemaker. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Athalia H. Long, Emma H. Hobbs, Cassie H. Norton, Elaine Leonard; and four brothers, Elton Hewett, Lloyd Hewett, Oliver Hewett, and Curtis Hewett. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Renee Long of Pireway, NC; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharron and Malcolm Long, Longwood, NC; a granddaughter and her husband, Sherry and Russell Bevill; three sisters, L'lena H. Holden, Ocean Isle Beach, Lucille H. Phillips, Loganville, GA, and Mary Alice H. SeIjan, Highland, IN. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 5th at 2:00 p.m. in the Longwood Baptist Church, where she was a life-long member, by the Rev. Barry Long. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
