Sister of Samuel Barr (husband of Sibella Bell) who died in Mifflin county in 1862.

Death Record – from The Tyrone Herald of July 31 1890 Mrs. Jane Work, who lived in Warriorsmark township, about one mile from this place, died Sunday morning at 10:47 o'clock of dysentery, at the advanced age of 84 years, four months and five days, and was buried Tuesday morning in Tyrone Cemetery at 10 o'clock, the funeral services being held at the house and conducted Rev. G.B. McKee assisted by Rev. J.R. Davies. She was the aunt of Mrs. J.M. Harper, and S. W. Barr of this place, and Rev. J.C. Barr of Dillsburg, York Co. Newell Varner of this place is a son of the deceased. Mrs. Work made her home with her step-daughter Mrs. Hannah Callen, and it was at the latter lady's home that she passed away Sunday morning.

The deceased was married three times, her husbands having been John Ray, David Varner, and Alexander Work, all of whom are dead. She was the mother of thirteen children, three of whom are living. They are: Newell Varner of Tyrone, Mrs. N.A. Griffin of Butler county, and Mrs. Tamer Varner of Armstrong county. She became a member of the Presbyterian church at the age of eighteen while living in Clarion county, and since had been an exemplary Christian woman. She was afterwards connected with the Protestant Methodist church, and since removing to Warriorsmark valley twenty-five years ago she had been a member of the United Brethren church.
