William J. Koch served as a Sergeant in the Quartermaster Corps, United States Army.

He served in the Army during the Spanish-American War and also during World War I.

He was a son of John B. Koch and Elizabeth B. (Bamberger) Koch.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 15, 1898 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

He first served in Company M, 5th Pennsylvania Volunteers from July 15, 1898 to November 11, 1898.

He then served in Company M, 10th U.S. Infantry Regiment from December 2, 1898 to December 20, 1901.

He then served in Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry Regiment from February 11, 1902 to June 15, 1909.

He then served in Company D, 16th U.S. Infantry Regiment from July 13, 1909 to July 23, 1912.

He then served in the Quartermaster Corps from August 15, 1915 to December 1, 1917.

He saw service in the Philippine Islands from April 17, 1901 to December 11, 1901 and from April 12, 1902 to August 22, 1903.

He received his discharge from the Army on December 1, 1917 at the Presidio in San Francisco, California.

He was originally from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on July 18, 1941.

Sergt. William J. Koch, aged 66 years, is reportedly seriously ill in Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. His brothers, Harry E. Koch, Baltimore Street, and Charles Koch, Harrisburg, visited Sergeant Koch today. After serving in the Spanish-American War as a member of Company M from Gettysburg, Sergeant Koch re-enlisted and did not retire until during the World War.

W. J. KOCH, RETIRED ARMY SERGEANT, DIES

William James Koch, Biglerville, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died in the Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. Death was caused by a tumor of the jaw. He was 66 years old.

Mr. Koch had been a patient at the hospital for several weeks.

A retired United States Army sergeant, the deceased participated in the Spanish-American War and later served several enlistments. He retired during the World War after serving more than thirty years in the Army.

Mr. Koch was born in Gettysburg, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Bamberger) Koch. He was a member of the Albert Lentz Post of the American Legion, the Spanish-American War Veterans, and the Order of Independent Americans.

Surviving are these brothers and sisters: Harry E., Gettysburg; John B., Cumberland Township; Charles L., Harrisburg; Mrs. Lizzie L. Harner, Baltimore; Mrs. Mack Eicholtz, Arendtsville; and Mrs. Frank McCleaf, Gettysburg.
