As a young couple Dan "DJ" and Annie loved to go fishing and to go to Church every Sunday. Annie Luke was pregnate with their last child Arlie Luke when Dan died at a very young age of the flu. He left a young wife and 7 children behind. Constant Luke took over as the Father figure to all of his siblings and raised Arlie more as his son than his brother. It made life very hard for the entire family but they united, endured, and survived. Dan is buried beside two of his children and Mother Margaret Elizabeth Tucker Luke. Annie said later years that she wanted to be buried in Florida where three of their children were and "she could take care of them and Dan was up in Georgia to see about the four children there." There were two babies that died at birth that were not named but are buried in St. Luke's Cemetery also.
Stories Annie told about her and Dan:
Dan loved how Annie made roasted pecans. Annie had a special way she would make them and wouldn't tell her secret of roasting pecans for Dan in the oven of the stove using oil and salt. Dan loved them that way.

Dan and I were coming home from church one Sunday morning. We were walking and the dirt road west of the Church was very wet and the water was still running across the road from the heavy rains from the night before. We came to a spot where the water had formed a small pool on the side of the road and a lot of fish were hemmed up in the little pool. I wanted to catch the fish and take them home for supper but Dan said that it would set a bad example for the children for us to catch fish on a Sunday even if we didn't catch them on a fishing line. I agreed. So we took limbs, rocks, and earth and dammed up the pool so they could not get back into the mainstream of water. Then we went on home. That night after the children had gone to bed and were a sleep, we went back and waded around in the small pool by torch lite and caught the fish and took them home, cleaned and cooked them.
