The DNA matches of descendants of my ancestor, James Stewart, have the DNA R-222 and R-269. They may be descended from a widow-woman who married a Stewart, but don't quote me. They all descend from a Benjamin Stewart, however, there were three Benjamin Stewarts in the same area at the same time of the same generation.

James married Sarah Fleshman 6 November 1795 in Greenbriar Baptist Church, Alderson, Greenbrier, West Virginia. Sarah "Sally" was the only wife of James and this James should not be confused with the Ohio James Stewart who died in May of the same year and had three wives.

The Will of James, written 7th of July 1834, was recorded 4th of Aug 1834, and probated 5th of February 1835 in Greene Co, Indiana.

Sarah, loyal Presbyterian, left James, taking baby Lewis with her when James joined the Moravians and moved to Indiana. James and Sarah were legally separated in 1833 when he filed for divorce. She later married a man named Mr. Legg.

James and Sarah Fleshman Stewart's daughter Mary "Polly" Stewart married Alexander Stewart, son of John Stewart, brother of James. James and John were sons of Benjamin Stewart, according to the Stewart Clan Magazine. Y-DNA matches results show this paternal line possibly of Doherty descent. My royal Stewart line is through a maternal Stewart line of Lady Elizabeth Stewart.

James and Sarah's daughter, Dorothy Stewart, married Elder David Fry of LDS (later RLDS: Morning Star Branch) and died in Iowa. Their daughter Mary Ann Fry married George J. Headlee. Then she married William Palmer whose daughter Rosetta Palmer married George Bunnell. Their daughter Rosamond Bunnell married RLDS President William Wallace Smith, son of Joseph Smith III, President of RLDS and his second wife Ada Clark, son of Joseph Smith, Jr. "the Prophet" and Emma Hale.

James and Sarah's daughter Sarah married Zedekiah Adamson and died before her father. Sarah and Zedekiah had a son named James Adamson. A descendant of his daughter Eliza Jane Harrison is an atDNA match of ours at Ancestry.

James and Sarah's son Francis Stewart never married.

James and Sarah's daughter Elizabeth who died without children, married her first cousin Charles Stewart as his first wife. Charles descendants are an exact DNA match with James and Sarah's descendants through Charles' paternal line and his second wife, Eleanor Ellingsworth. (Charles and Alexander Stewart were the sons of John Stewart who went to Indiana with brother James Stewart. John & James were sons of Benjamin Stewart.)

James and Sarah's daughter Vesta married Thomas Huey aka Hewey and had a son named William (Wallam) Hewey. Also DNA matches of ours.

James and Sarah's youngest son Lewis was not mentioned in James' will.
