Martha Ann Hughes Pulsipher

When Martha Ann Hughes was born on May 1, 1843, in Pembroke, Wales, her father, James, was 35 and her mother, Ann, was 39. Martha had one brother and six sisters. Beginning in 1846 members of her family began to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was baptized in 1851 at age 8. In 1855 she came to America with her family aboard the Sam S Curling. Her father & a sister died of Cholera shortly after arriving in America. She was 12 years old. That same year she left Kansas with her mother & siblings with the Charles A Harper Company and arrived in Salt Lake City. In 1857, when she was 14 years old, she married Zerah Pulsipher. Zerah was her brother's wife's grandfather and was 68 years old! They had 5 children. In 1872 Zerah died and Martha married Dudley Leavitt. They had 3 children. She died on May 18, 1907, in Bunkerville, Clark County, Nevada, at the age of 66.
